Marathon Training has begun!
So here we go (again)!! It is that time of year where everyone who has signed up for a Spring marathon starts the PLAN! I have run an unofficial plan since Chelmsford where I have been working on cementing a 5 run week and also maintaining speed work which will be a crucial part of my marathon training this year.
In 2020 I will be running the Manchester Marathon and London Marathon back to back. There is 3 weeks between each one. I will once again be documenting my journey on my YouTube Channel and the new series has already begun.
I feel confident going into this plan after a successful event at the Chelmsford Marathon and because of the confidence gained there I shall be aiming for a sub 4 hour marathon in Manchester.
The sub 4 hour marathon is the holy grail for amateur marathon runners like myself, maintaining a strong pace over the 26.2 miles is a physical and mental ordeal that in the past I have not felt confident or experienced enough to combat. Next year because of the success I have had in 2019 with improving my fitness and mental attitude I will be training for the sub 4!
My training plan is a simple 5 run week focussing on speed and distance. I will knuckle down really hard and keep pushing my speed runs as I aim to get fitter and stronger. My long runs will be taken at a much slower pace this time round with only small elements of marathon pace thrown in later. In the plan I aim to hit 20 miles twice, this is not for a physical reason but a mental challenge.
I am really looking forward to diving into this plan and seeing what it brings!
Christmas will not mean a rest for me as I do just love training through the whole year as it maintains my mental health.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support this year and congratulate you all on your achievements! Good luck for 2020 and I hope to see you at an event soon!
Merry Christmas
