Brooks Ghost 15 Review

The Best Daily Trainer of 2022?

The Brooks gravy train keeps churning out money from the Ghost line which is why it hasn't changed much in the last few years! In their view why change a winning formula that keeps bringing in the cash (and lots of it)?! If I was in charge at Brooks I would do the same! We have a 'new' version out that features an updated midsole, so let's see what it's like! Latest offers on Running Shoes

Stats & Features

*Daily trainer

*12mm drop

*Fits true to size

*Weighs 297g (US size 9)

*Updated DNA Loft V2 midsole

Upper

I do like a Brooks upper you know what you are going to get. The fit is sweet with plenty of room in the toe box with the sweet fitting upper. It's not complicated which works. It's not the most breathable but it will do 90% of the runners that use this shoe.

Midsole

The new compound is definitely bouncier and lighter feeling. It's still not very responsive which I think actually comes from the lack of stack. I'd be interested so see how this shoe came out if they pumped up the midsole and gave us a bit more stack. It feels very thin in the forefoot which the high drop is probably making it more noticeable. It's not that the midsole is a disaster but there's just no real pop from it.

Outsole

LOADS of tread on the Brooks Ghost 15 to keep you going for many miles. Still not the best in the wet but it's definitely one of the positives about the shoe. They could thin the outsole down to shave some weight but I think that would make the shoe worse. One of the only reasons you'd buy this shoe is for the outsole and that it will last you forever.

Value

£130 is ok when comparing it to some ASICS shoes etc but please don't pay £130 wait til it goes on sale if you really feel like you have to have this shoe!

Does it make you feel awesome?

Bottom line no! It's one of the most boring running shoes you can buy. The new lighter, bouncier feeling midsole is an improvement but this shoe is stuck in a time warp! If you like the Ghost then you'll be just fine here but there are much more fun and awesome shoes out there like the ASICS NOVABLAST 3. Brooks will sell loads of this shoe and fair play to them. There's nothing here to beat them up about, it's just so boring!

Yah or Nah

It's a Nah from me BUT I would say if you are new to running and want a good solid shoe to look after you as you venture out then the Brooks Ghost 15 could be an option. I am not being negative on the shoe as it provides a perfectly good daily trainer which is built well and will perform well on those daily miles. For me in a daily trainer I want more feedback, something that I can pick up the pace in, go long and just do every everything really well. The Ghost 15 is just too boring for me. I really want Brooks to up their game. They are a great company and I am sure their designers have some fab ideas and are chumping at the bit to get some of their innovative ideas to market. It's just a shame Brooks continue to focus on just making money and not pushing the envelope when it comes to making desirable products. I don't blame them if I was their CEO I'd be saying the same but I don't think I could help myself to want to bring out something fresh and exciting. Come on Brooks I know you can do it!
