Welcome to the new FORDY RUNS Blog.
Firstly, may I say what a privilege it is to have been asked by FORDY to be involved in this.
I’ve loved being a member of the FORDY RUNS Community over the last year and I’m sure we are going to have a lot of fun producing some excellent content for our running friends to enjoy.
My name’s Ian Wilkerson and I’ve been running for about three-and-a-half years. It’s a very long story that I might bore you with one day if we run out of contributions, but I’ve also been a sports journalist for 25 years, so being involved in this capacity is right up my street.
FORDY and I thought the best thing to do at this stage would be to just say a few words about how the blog might work.
To a certain degree, we are going to play it by ear and we are going to be governed by you!
We are looking to publish things perhaps monthly to start with and include some reviews as and when we receive them, but nothing is set in stone.
Some of you may be experienced bloggers. Some of you may just fancy having a go. It really doesn’t matter. We are an inclusive community and the blog is going to reflect that.
There is nothing to worry about if you think you are not a good writer. We can do something about that. I’m happy to go through people’s stuff and offer advice.
Don’t worry if your words get changed sometimes. I’ve been doing this for donkey’s years and it happens to me every day.
So, I’d urge you to have a go. I promise it will give you a great sense of achievement. You never know, you might enjoy it.
If you’ve got something to say, this is your chance to say it.
If you a keen, though, I expect you’ve got one pressing question you would like to answer:
What am I going to write about?
Well here are a few ideas to think about and help you get going:
How did you get into running?
A race review - was it a dream half-marathon or a nightmare 10k?
A product review - Chris has posted on Facebook the information we will need if you are conducting one of these, so take a look at the post he put up on Saturday regarding the subject.
Have you got something about running that you would like to get off your chest?
Tell us about your FORDY RUNS Satellite club
You may come up with something yourself and that’s fine. If you’ve got any questions then feel free to drop me a line.
To start with, 4-500 words would be an ideal length for your piece.
Don’t forget to include some pictures, including one of yourself, and please also add a little bit about you - where you’re from, how long you’ve been running, favourite events and distances, that sort of stuff.
Send your pieces to Fordyrunsblog@gmail.com and I’ll keep an eye on the inbox.
I look forward to reading them and being involved in this exciting project. I hope you are too.
All the best
