Winter is here and Marathon training has begun!
I actually love winter training, I am not sure why based on the fact it's cold, wet and muddy ... but I just love it!
The key to good winter training is having the right gear. I am super lucky to be kitted out this year by the awesome guys at SKINS. If you have not seen the video I made on compression gear and whether it works you need to check it out.
I have two essential items of clothing from SKINS that will be with me on every long run this Marathon training season.
First up is the amazing DNAmic Thermal Men’s Long Sleeve Top with Mock Neck and Zip. With a 5cm mock neck, centre front zip and strategically placed airflow mesh for breathability, this upper body base layer will keep me warm in sub-zero temperatures and help reduce the risk of injury. I love wearing this on it's own or under a gillet, it just keeps me warm but not boiling hot!
The other essential item I wear are compression bottoms. I am lucky to have two which I use on my long runs and it depends on temperature which ones I go for. If it is above freezing I will wear SKINS DNAmic ULTIMATE men’s Starlight Long Tights . SKINS have combined their medium-strength DNAmic Gradient Compression to minimise injuries to your ITB, TFL, knees and Achilles tendon, with reflective graphic details that shine bright in low light to stay seen after dark. During the day, HeiQ temperature and odour managing tech and 50+ UV protective features keep me feeling fresh from start to finish. I love these and feel a massive difference especially in recovery when wearing these on my long runs.
If it is really cold I grab SKINS DNAmic Thermal Men’s Long Tights. They have combined their best thermal fabrics with SKINS revolutionary DNAmic Gradient Compression to create the ultimate base layer for winter sport performance. These are so awesome and keep you nice and warm but still perform well in the cold.
Staying warm but not overheating is essential in winter training so my advice is invest in some decent compression clothing and you will notice the difference!
