Nike Winflo 12 Review: Affordable Daily Trainer With a Catch

The Nike Winflo 12 continues the brand’s long-running tradition of offering a budget-friendly alternative to its premium daily trainers. Sitting just below the Pegasus line, the Winflo series has always been about accessibility—giving runners a reliable Nike experience without the higher price tag.

At around £75 (with discounts often available), the Winflo 12 certainly looks like great value on paper. But does it actually deliver as a running shoe, or are there better options out there? Let’s break it down.

Design, Fit & First Impressions
The Winflo 12 is an undeniably good-looking shoe. Nike has nailed the aesthetic here—it’s sleek, modern, and versatile enough to double as a casual lifestyle sneaker. In fact, it’s one of those rare running shoes that looks just as good with jeans as it does with running gear.

Fit is true to size, with a secure and comfortable lockdown. The padded tongue and structured upper provide a plush step-in feel, making it immediately comfortable straight out of the box.

However, the upper leans toward the thicker side. While this adds comfort and structure, it does reduce breathability slightly, which may be noticeable on warmer runs.

Midsole & Cushioning
The Winflo 12 features Nike’s Cushlon 3.0 foam paired with an Air Zoom unit. While officially an EVA-based foam, the ride feels noticeably softer than previous versions—closer to the feel of React foam. There’s also an increase in stack height compared to the Winflo 11 (estimated around 41mm heel / 31mm forefoot with a 10mm drop), which contributes to a more cushioned and forgiving ride.

On easy runs, the shoe performs well:
  • Soft underfoot feel
  • Comfortable for longer mileage
  • Smooth and stable transitions
However, it lacks responsiveness. This is not a shoe designed for speedwork or uptempo sessions—it’s best suited for easy miles and recovery runs.

Outsole & Durability
One of the standout features of the Winflo 12 is its outsole. Nike has gone all-in here, with thick rubber coverage across the entire bottom of the shoe.

This results in:
  • Excellent grip, even on rough or gravelly surfaces
  • Outstanding durability
  • A very stable platform
The wide base also adds inherent stability, making it a solid option for runners who prefer a more planted feel. The downside? That same durability contributes significantly to the shoe’s biggest flaw—its weight.

Weight & Performance Drawbacks
At approximately 330g (UK size 9.5), the Winflo 12 is heavy—especially for a daily trainer in 2026 standards.
This weight is noticeable both in-hand and on-foot, and it impacts the overall running experience:
  • Feels sluggish at faster paces
  • Less versatile compared to lighter daily trainers
  • Not ideal for progression runs or tempo work
While the cushioning improvements are welcome, they don’t fully compensate for the lack of energy return compared to competing models.

The Bigger Problem: Internal Competition
Here’s where things get tricky for the Winflo 12. For just a bit more money (often under £100), you can get the Nike Vomero 18—a significantly more advanced running shoe featuring ReactX and ZoomX foam.

Compared to the Winflo 12, the Vomero 18 offers:
  • Better cushioning and energy return
  • Lighter, more refined ride
  • Greater versatility for different types of runs
  • Higher overall performance
This creates a major issue: the Winflo 12 is simply outclassed by a better shoe within Nike’s own lineup.

Pros & Cons
Pros
  • Affordable price point
  • Comfortable and cushioned ride
  • Durable, grippy outsole
  • Stable platform
  • Stylish design (great for casual wear)
Cons
  • Too heavy for a modern daily trainer
  • Upper runs slightly thick and warm
  • Lacks responsiveness
  • Outperformed by similarly priced alternatives

Final Verdict
The Nike Winflo 12 is a solid, comfortable, and durable daily trainer that works well for easy runs and casual wear. If you can find it at a steep discount, it offers decent value—especially for beginners or runners who prioritise comfort over performance.

However, in today’s market, it’s hard to recommend outright. With better options like the Nike Vomero 18 available for just a little more money, the Winflo 12 feels slightly outdated and compromised—particularly due to its weight. Bottom line: A decent budget shoe—but not the best choice if you’re serious about your running.
