Saucony Endorphin Elite 3 Review

Saucony has taken a very different approach with the Endorphin Elite 3. While many brands are chasing ever more aggressive race-day geometry, the Elite 3 seems focused on refining the formula rather than reinventing it. The result is a super shoe that combines massive rebound with a noticeably more stable and controlled ride than previous versions.

The headline update is the continued use of Saucony’s IncrediRUN midsole foam, which first appeared in the Elite 2. This ultra-soft TPEE-based foam is designed to deliver huge energy return while maintaining an incredibly lightweight feel underfoot. Early reviews consistently describe the ride as highly energetic and deeply cushioned, but with a smoother and more manageable character compared to the sometimes unpredictable feel of the previous model.
The shoe sits right on the legal racing limit with a 39.5mm heel stack and a 31.5mm forefoot stack, creating an 8mm drop. Despite the huge amount of foam underfoot, Saucony has managed to keep the weight impressively low, with most reports placing it around 213g in a men’s US 9.

One of the biggest criticisms of the Endorphin Elite 2 was stability. The extremely soft foam and aggressive cutout design made the shoe feel fast, but also difficult to control for some runners, especially later in races or while cornering. Saucony has directly addressed that with the Elite 3 by filling in the midsole cutout and widening the platform without adding significant weight. That added structure appears to make the shoe feel much more planted while still retaining the explosive bounce that defined the previous version.

The carbon plate has also been redesigned. Saucony has introduced a slotted and more heavily fluted full-length carbon plate, intended to create smoother heel-to-toe transitions while improving flexibility through the midfoot. Rather than delivering an overly rigid sensation, the new plate geometry works more naturally with the soft IncrediRUN foam and the aggressive SpeedRoll rocker geometry.

That combination of ultra-soft foam, reshaped plate geometry, and improved platform stability gives the Elite 3 a very different personality compared to some of the harsher and more aggressive marathon racers currently on the market. It still looks and feels like a true super shoe, but one that may appeal to a broader range of runners because it feels more forgiving and easier to handle over longer distances.

The upper remains extremely race focused, using a lightweight engineered mesh with a stripped-back construction to minimise weight. The fit appears best suited to narrow or standard-width feet, with a secure, performance-oriented lockdown rather than a spacious daily trainer feel.

What makes the Endorphin Elite 3 particularly interesting is that Saucony no longer seems willing to sacrifice stability entirely in pursuit of speed. Instead, this feels like a more mature super shoe — still highly aggressive, still exceptionally fast, but now with enough control and protection to make it more usable for a wider range of marathon runners.

If the Endorphin Elite 2 felt like a shoe built purely for elite-level efficiency, the Elite 3 looks like it could finally bridge the gap between maximum bounce and real-world race usability. At around $290, it remains firmly positioned as a premium race-day option, but based on the reviews already published, this could end up being one of the standout marathon super shoes of 2026.
