The Nike Vomero Plus might just be one of the best running shoes Nike has produced in years. After putting it through a proper long run test, I can confidently say this shoe offers comfort, stability, and performance that could make it a genuine alternative to the ASICS Superblast 2 — at a significantly lower price.
This is a good shoe
I managed to get my hands on the Nike Vomero Plus ahead of its official launch (thanks to the team at SportShoes.com) and made sure to log a long run before forming my verdict. Straight out of the box, the shoe feels premium — the engineered mesh upper, plush cushioning around the heel and tongue, and full-length ZoomX midsole all point to a high-quality build.
Initially, I was surprised by how firm the shoe felt for a ZoomX model. It wasn’t the marshmallow softness you might expect, but after a few runs, it began to open up and deliver that smooth, energetic ride ZoomX is known for.
Stats & Features
Price: £155 (UK)
Weight: 307g (UK 9.5)
Drop: 10mm (45mm heel / 35mm forefoot)
Midsole: Full-length ZoomX foam
Outsole: Waffle rubber for grip and durability
Fit: True to size with a roomy toe box
Compared to the Nike Vomero 18, the Plus model upgrades to full-length ZoomX (instead of the mixed ZoomX/React X setup) and has a more premium upper and improved lockdown. The stack heights are similar, but the Plus is slightly lighter and offers more space in the forefoot.
Performance & Ride
The Vomero Plus thrives in the marathon-pace sweet spot. During my long run, it felt best around 8:00/mile (5:00/km) — stable, smooth, and bouncy without being unstable or mushy.
At easier paces (around 9:00/mile / 5:40/km), it remained comfortable and responsive, while at faster efforts (around 7:30/mile / 4:30/km), it still performed well, though not as aggressively as a pure speed shoe.
One standout feature is how light it feels on foot despite tipping the scales just over 300g. That’s partly due to the way the ZoomX midsole delivers energy return without feeling bulky.
Rotation Placement
This shoe works perfectly as part of a three-shoe rotation:
Daily trainer – e.g., Puma Deviate Nitro 2 or Saucony Ride
Long-run/max comfort – Nike Vomero Plus
Race-day shoe – e.g., ASICS Metaspeed Edge+ or Vaporfly
It’s also a great option if you want a versatile, cushioned trainer that can handle both long runs and steady-pace sessions.
Vomero Plus vs. Superblast 2
Here’s the big talking point: at £155, the Nike Vomero Plus is a fantastic cheaper alternative to the ASICS Superblast 2 (£190). While the Superblast 2 remains lighter and arguably more explosive thanks to its foam setup, the Vomero Plus isn’t far behind in ride quality and comfort.
If you’ve been frustrated trying to get hold of the Superblast 2 or simply want to stay within the Nike ecosystem, the Vomero Plus offers a lot of what makes the Superblast great — at a lower cost.
Final Verdict
The Nike Vomero Plus is a genuine highlight in Nike’s recent running shoe history. It’s well-cushioned, stable, and versatile enough for everything from easy miles to marathon-pace efforts. The roomy fit, premium materials, and full-length ZoomX midsole make it a joy to run in.
Pros:
Full-length ZoomX midsole
Stable, smooth ride
Premium fit and finish
Roomy toe box
Strong value for money
Cons:
Slightly firm out of the box
Not as light or explosive as the Superblast 2
