Brooks Ghost Max 3 still shines

I’ve been running and walking in the Brooks Ghost Max 3, and here’s my honest take on the latest version of this high-stack neutral trainer.
Impressions & Fit
The Ghost Max 3 continues to build on the formula that made the first two versions popular: a tall, cushioned stack with a wide and stable base. With a heel stack around 39mm and a 6mm drop, this shoe feels soft underfoot while keeping a grounded, controlled ride. The fit is true to size with a roomy toe box, and it accommodates wider feet or orthotics well. The padded collar and tongue make it comfortable straight out of the box.
Cushion & Ride
This version features updated DNA Loft v3 foam, which gives it a slightly lighter and softer feel than previous models. It’s not bouncy, but the ride is smooth and protective. The GlideRoll rocker makes transitions easy, gently rolling you through each stride. It’s not a fast shoe, but for recovery runs, easy miles, or walking, it really shines.
Stability & Support
While the Ghost Max 3 is classified as a neutral shoe, it offers great inherent stability thanks to the wide base, sidewalls, and the structured midsole. There’s also a solid internal heel counter that locks the foot down nicely. I felt confident on various surfaces, including pavement and light trails, with no issues around stability or control.
Weight & Responsiveness
Coming in at around 10 ounces for a men's size 9 (roughly 285–300g depending on size), the shoe isn’t heavy considering how much foam it packs in. However, it’s not designed for responsiveness. This isn’t a shoe for tempo days or intervals—it’s all about comfort, not speed.
Durability
The outsole rubber coverage is excellent, especially in the heel and forefoot, and the foam holds up well over time. This should be a reliable workhorse for daily training, walking, or long shifts on your feet. Based on usage so far, I’d expect solid durability over 300–400 miles.
What I Liked
Plush, consistent underfoot feel
Wide and stable platform
Smooth rocker transition
Great fit and lockdown
Durable outsole and construction
What I Didn’t Like
Too soft and bulky for speed sessions
A little stiff through the forefoot for heel strikers
Might feel too roomy for runners with narrow feet
